Sussex Historic Churches Trust - Ride & Stride awards

St Georges Church, Whyke celebrated the achievements of no less than four of their congregation on Saturday. The four had taken part in the annual Sussex Historic Churches Trust sponsored “Ride & Stride” in September as both cyclists and walkers, and they formed the largest number of individuals from one church to achieve so highly.

They received their awards on Saturday at St Andrews Church, Steyning, where they were presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex, Hugh Wyatt, in the presence of Bishop of Chichester, John Hind.

In the adults section, local organiser Steve Blighton was runner-up in the walkers. In the under-16 cyclists, Bishop Luffa student, James Price, 14, was runner-up, despite having his cycle stolen (and recovered) during the event. In the under-16 walkers, Central Junior School pupils, Ashley Thompson, 11, and Victoria Hills, 10 were winner and runner-up respectively.

They are pictured here with Lord-Lieutenant Wyatt.
