Preparing for Saint George's Day
It has been all systems go this week at St George’s Church in Cleveland Road, as they prepare to celebrate St George’s Day. On St George’s Day (April 23rd) the Dean of Chichester the Very Reverend Nicholas Frayling will preach at the 7.30 Mass.
The celebrations will continue with a special service at 10am on Sunday April 27th. Not only will there be celebratory drinks in the Centenary Centre after the service, but there will be a circus skills workshop for the children whilst the annual parochial church meeting takes place, followed by a full roast lunch at The Mainline Tavern opposite.
In addition Father Stuart Cradduck, using his knowledge and experience of arranging the renowned St Albans Festival Pilgrimage, has managed to acquire a stunning dragon from the country’s leading carnival arts company, ‘Mahogany Community Ventures’, to be the centrepiece of the proceedings next week. If the beast looks slightly familiar, maybe you’re a football fan. The 15ft tall and 20ft long mythical creature took part in the opening ceremony at Wembley for Euro ’96.
The dragon arrived on Monday, but it wasn’t possible to keep it secret for long due to its size!
