Bishop Eric Kemp Memorial Project
(From the Chichester Diocesan Website)

The Right Reverend Eric Kemp (1915-2009)
Following the death of Bishop Eric on 28 November 2009, a great many people and organisations have asked if there is to be a permanent Memorial of the Bishop’s long service to the Church of England, and in particular his ministry as Bishop of Chichester from 1974 to 2001.
With the warm approval of the Bishop of Chichester and Bishop Eric’s family, the Dean and Chapter have decided to bring forward a project to restore the Shrine of St Richard in the Cathedral. This will include measures to enhance the focus of the Shrine as a place of prayer and devotion, and will incorporate a simple plaque to Bishop Eric, and a permanent home for the Icon of St Richard by Sergei Fyodorov.
The enhancement of the Shrine was a cause dear to Bishop Eric, who regarded its destruction during the Reformation and the Civil War as ‘a terrible tragedy’.
Full details of the Appeal will be posted on the Chichester Cathedral and Chichester Diocese websites by mid-January 2010, and communicated to all the parishes, and to the organisations with which the Bishop was especially associated.
