Rebekah's Bio

Rebekah

I am very much looking forward to joining you as Assistant Curate this coming June.

I was born in Devon in 1977, the second of twins and one of three siblings. I grew up in various towns and villages around the River Exe on a diet of folk music, Baptist church and educational field trips courtesy of my headmaster father. My parents, both partial towards amateur dramatics and operatics, enthused a keen sense of all things theatrical from an early age. This influenced my decision to study Theatre Arts and Theatre Directing courses at University and pursue a career in production. I trained and directed productions in Moscow , Bali and Thailand , fell in love with Asia and worldwide travel in general before returning to England to walk the long path of vocational discernment for ministry. Whilst doing so, I worked in the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Department of HMP Exeter and as a Regional Arts Officer for Devon before commencing full time theological studies at Westcott House in Cambridge .

Once there I took up film making, spent a semester at Yale University researching Liturgy and Arts and took advantage of the leap year by asking for my fiancé's hand in marriage.

(My fiancé; Robert, grew up in Staffordshire and trained as a musician. He plays the organ badly and the tuba even worse having had little time to dedicate to his craft since starting an electrical engineering company in Gibraltar nine years ago. His plug wiring ability is also somewhat diminished since the success of the company meant less time under floorboards and more time behind a computer screen negotiating contracts.

He loves reading history and poetry and is a fantastic self-taught chef and connoisseur of Spanish red wine. He will be joining me at some point to marry and resettle back in the UK, intent on following his new vocation in life; that of composer/chocolatiere)

I am excited about the next, formative and certainly most influential part of priestly training. Being welcomed by, learning and growing from, and contributing to the community of St George's is both thrilling and terrifying; and I hope that my open minded and positive anticipation of what is to come, is matched only by your equable anticipation of me.

Until June...

Rebekah
