On Saturday the 30th of September, St George’s held a Pets’ service, followed by a Dog Show, an Other Pets Show as well as Drawing and Colouring competitions.
It had been over 10 years since the last Pets Service at our church and none of us knew how popular the idea was going to be. We were all somewhat nervous on the day, wondering how many animals we would be hosting and how well behaved they would be!
In the event, we were very pleasantly surprised by the response, with between 25 to 30 Dogs ( of all shapes and sizes), plus Cats, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters & Rabbits; not forgetting all their Human families!
The service itself was a wonderful time of giving thanks for the animals that bring so much joy and comfort to the people of our Parish.
Each pet received a blessing and all were very well behaved throughout.
After the service, we had 15 entrants for the Dog Show which took place in our car park. There were 3 categories. Dog with the waggiest tail; Best behaved Dog and Dog most like it’s owner; with rosettes and prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
The Other Pets Show had 6 Guinea Pigs competing for Cutest Pet, Best Behaved Pet and Pet most like it’s owner; while in the centre we had a Colouring and Drawing competition for Children under 8 and for the 9’s and over.
We would like to thank all those who took part in the events of the day and hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did.
It was lovely to see so many people ( and their pets) coming to St George’s for the first time and we hope, not the last.
